The Heritage Park at Dún na Sí will take you on a journey through Ireland’s past from ancient magical stone circle and the legendary warrior Lugh to the experience of life in a farmhouse one hundred years ago. Explore an ancient Ring Fort and visit a Mass Rock where the people practiced their faith in a time of persecution. Then see where an Irish family lived before the famine and visit the hedge school where children learned Latin and Greek from a traveling schoolmaster.
Learn about the traditional trades and crafts of the Irish countryside with a visit to the Blacksmith’s Forge and the Fisherman’s cottage where nets were made and mended to ply their trade on the midland’s lakes and rivers. At the Dún na Sí Pet Farm you can meet many of the animals who wandered Irish farmyards in days gone by and at the Rural Museum you will find a unique collection of farm machinery spanning most of the last century. Then, at the Scéal an Tradisiúin exhibition in the Teach Cheoil, learn about the story of traditional Irish music song and dance from the Ancient celts right up to Riverdance.
Entrance to the Heritage Park is at The Pantry at Dún na Sí.
