If you're looking for a fun-filled, exciting and educational day out for your school this year - Then Dún na Sí is the place to be.
Take a trip back in time on our Heritage Trail and meet some legends along the way, or explore wild nature in our Parkland, spotting different species from our specially constructed bird-hide. At our Scéal exhibition, learn about the story of Irish music song and dance from the time of the Celts right up to Riverdance, or if you'd like something a little more active, then an orienteering adventure can be arranged. We also have green areas for playing football and other games, a playground and a fabulous Pet Farm. We have a Picnic Area if you want to bring a packed lunch, a great Coffee Shop and refreshments will be provided for all hardworking teachers accompanying the tour!
Below you can see an outline of our School Tour options. However we can arrange a tour package to suit individual requirements and will be happy to devise a personalised tour for your school depending on how much time you want to spend and how much fun you want to have!
Tour 1 - Guided Tour of the Heritage Park and ‘Scéal’ Exhibition
An experienced tour guide will take you through our Heritage Park where you will learn what everyday life was like in Ireland long ago. Our Heritage Park includes a Pet Farm which its home to native farm animals as seen on a typical Irish farm which include a Kerry cow and calf, goats, sheep and lamb, wild boars, ducks, hens, geese, guinea pigs and rabbits. You will then proceed to the ‘Scéal’ Exhibition which tells tells the story of traditional music song and dance set against the turbulent history of Ireland. This exhibition includes a museum which displays all Traditional Irish Musical instruments. The highlight of this tour will take place in the Teach Ceoil. You will be asked to participate in a simple Irish Ceili Dance. Something not to be missed! Finally, you will have the opportunity to dip in our dipping ponds adjacent to our Explore Science Laboratory. Examine under microscope your catch before returning it safely to the dipping ponds. When the tour is complete students can explore our Amenity Park and spend unlimited time in the playground, parkland and picnic areas. Alternatively, they can explore the Art in the Park Gardens and Nature walks adjacent to the Turlough.
Tour 2 - Orienteering Package
An exciting Orienteering experience in which participants use an accurate, detailed map to find points in the Amenity Park. There are 11 Control Points to be found on this Adventure Challenge. It can be enjoyed as a walk in the park or as a competitive sport. This programme is suitable for Senior Pupils in Primary School and Second Level Students. When the Orienteering Programme is complete students can explore our Amenity Park and spend unlimited time in the playground, parkland and picnic areas. Alternatively, they can explore the Art in the Park Gardens and Nature walks adjacent to the Turlough. Junior Orienteering also available on request.
Tour 3 - Pre-School and Junior Classes in Primary School
Visit the farmhouse and see where the animals sleep at night. Feed some of the animals in our Pet Farm. Visit the Hedge School to experience where school classes took place years ago and learn about Irish History in the various attractions located in the Heritage Park. Travel on the Ballyboy Express Train. Later, explore our Amenity Park and spend unlimited time in the playground, parkland, play area and picnic areas.
