ABOUT

Welcome to Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park

Travel through time and experience a unique outdoor adventure exploring tradition, heritage, nature, and activity! Meet the ancient Irish warrior Lugh, explore the roots of Irish music, or journey through the past and discover how rural communities lived throughout time – all in a visit to Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park!

Dún na Sí (pronounced Doon na Shee) translates from Irish as “the fort of the fairies”. It is named after the local folklore that some lone hawthorn bushes (often known as fairy bushes) once marked the presence of a ‘fairy fort’ which previously existed in our Heritage Park. Located in the heart of Ireland at the Gateway between Ireland’s Ancient East and Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, our beautiful award-winning Heritage Park is easily accessible for visits from all over Ireland. We are located in Moate, Co. Westmeath; just 75 minutes from Dublin and an hour from Galway.

Dún na Sí Heritage Park is a living testament to the vision, dedication and pride of the local community. Generations of volunteers have devoted countless hours to creating, developing and caring for the park, preserving Ireland’s rich rural heritage while providing a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. Their ongoing commitment continues to shape the park today, making Dún na Sí far more than a visitor attraction—it is a community-led heritage project where history, culture and local spirit come together.
