The “Big Dig”
Event Date: 15 October, 2022
We are delighted to host a FREE archaeological experience for children aged between 5 and 12 years on Saturday October 15th from 11am until 4pm. Each session lasts for forty minutes.
‘The Big Dig’, brought to you by The School of Irish Archaeology offers hands-on learning for curious children and budding archaeologists. Children are invited to explore the Viking world through a simulated archaeology dig. They are given the chance to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house. As they dig through the site, participants will unearth Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1,000 years. They will learn about the lives of our Viking ancestors as history is brought to life by qualified archaeologists.
This experience is funded by The Heritage Council with support from Westmeath County Council.
